Suspicious Package at Bus Stop Not Explosive
Police: Suspicious Package at Bus Stop Not Explosive
Authorities say a suspicious package removed from a University Avenue bus shelter Saturday evening was not an explosive.
Members of the St. Paul bomb squad removed the package shortly before 6 p.m. from a bus shelter near Berry Street.
Several blocks of University Avenue were closed after two University of Minnesota students reported the package late afternoon. The road has since re-opened.
Bomb squad personnel used a robot to remove the package from the shelter, loading it into a protective container and into a trailer. Police spokesperson Andy Skoogman said authorities are still trying to determine what the object is, but it does not contain an explosive.
Customers at a Dunn Brothers Coffee near the scene were stuck inside for about an hour and a half on the direction of police, who told them to keep away from windows.
