Metro Transit is working with Xcel Energy and other partners on a $7.5 Million Department of Energy grant application to install one megawatt solar generator on the roof of Heywood garage. The grant application, which will be supplement by another grant by Xcel research funds, will be submitted at the end of the month.
This will be able to provide enough power to power 1,000 homes, assuming the solar generator operates at its peak capacity.
